Runners of all abilities can enter the event with the goal to run as many loops of a 1km track as possible. Each lap is paced by a cyclist with a kangaroo mascot on the handlebars. The starting pace is leisurely, allowing beginner runners being able to stay ahead of the Roo. Each lap gets progressively faster, eventually challenging even the fastest, endurance runners.
To stay in the race, you must cross the finish line ahead of the Roo. Runners unable to stay ahead of the Roo on each lap are eliminated. The ultimate winner is the runner who completes the most laps.
