GROUP RIDE sessions (Coached OR Optional WITH CALOUNDRA TRI CLUB)
Group rides leave from the club shed ‘The Bin’ in Arthur Street Caloundra, opposite the Caloundra Lighthouse Rugby Union Clubhouse. Roll out is at 5:30am sharp, so please ensure you allow time to pump up your tyres, put on your helmet, cycling shoes etc. prior to departure. Our routes will vary, but will generally stay in the local Caloundra area.
These sessions will provide you with the knowledge to safely and confidently ride on-road. Each session will be taken by an experienced club member with extensive riding experience. They will be at every ride to assist and support you.
Note that there will be a wide range of riding experience and equipment in these rides. We ask that if you are more experienced in riding, use this as an opportunity to support your fellow athletes so that we can all progress together. Initially these rides will focus on skills, safety and confidence. As the sessions progress we may split into groups to allow for additional experience and fitness for those who are already comfortably riding on-road. In this instance, all groups will be supported by a club member.
Please ensure that you read the Ibis Guide to Group Riding prior to our first ride. The contents of this document will be practiced during our rides to ensure the safety of everyone. Please also be aware of the Queensland road rules for cyclists.
Gear to bring to group ride sessions:
Bike, Bike shoes, or running shoes if using flat pedals
Helmet
Comfortable cycling wear, something with a chamois is recommended
Water bottle, if you don’t have a bottle cage attached to your bike we recommend getting one
Flashing rear light
Spare tube, levers and a CO2 cannister or pump to change a flat (don’t worry if you don’t know how to change a tube, we will assist you).
It is ok to use a mountain bike for our course and in the race, you will not be the only one. However, it is recommended that you look at putting hybrid tyres on. The smoother surface will significantly increase your comfort and speed on the road.
We generally finish with a coffee at one of the local coffee shops, so please bring along change for a coffee if your schedule allows.
OPTIONAL CLUB SESSIONS
All participants are welcome to attend any sessions provided by the Caloundra Triathlon Club during the 8 week period from August 30th, 2025, for which you are covered by AusTriathlon Australia insurance. A list of our sessions is provided on the club’s training calendar.
Note that the club’s normal activities will not have targeted support for beginners, but usually will look after less experienced attendees.
Wednesday morning run sessions cater for all abilities.
Many club members also attend swim squad on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (morning or evenings) at Caloundra Aquatic Centre. Note that these squads are offered by the Aquatic Centre and are separate to the club. Attendance at squad will be at your own expense.
Friday mornings are typically an open water swim at Kings Beach or Moffat Beach at 6am.
